“Shore Guardian” by Kate Stock

My image, Shore Guardian, explores the connection between people, place, and experience. Created using an in-camera double exposure, I combined two images taken in the same space, allowing the surf life saving hut and surrounding environment to blend into one dreamlike scene. Rather than documenting the moment exactly as it appeared, I wanted to capture the feeling of standing at the edge of the ocean, caught between observation and action. Using Lensbaby lenses, I embrace softness, blur, and selective focus to create impressionistic images that reflect my love of emotive storytelling and the way memory, place, and perception can merge together. As an artist, I’m drawn to creating work that feels intuitive and atmospheric, inviting viewers to connect emotionally with the landscape.
